Healthy food can taste bland so here are some tricks to add flavor without that many calories. Discover balsamic vinegar – you can forget the oil when you use this vinegar – use it on salads and subs and sandwiches. Mustard adds flavor without that many calories if you are going to use a condiment. Cinnamon is a great substitute for sugar – try it on oatmeal, – it has been shown to stabilize blood sugar levels as well. Chicken broth for butter works in some recipes so try that to save calories. Meal Makeover Mom Liz Weiss Shares Kid Tested Healthy Recipes For Picky Eaters
On today’s show Dr Fitness and the Fat Guy had on Liz Weiss, author of No Whine with Dinner: 150 healthy Kid-Tested Recipes from the Meal Makeover Moms. Relax this book has recipes for foods your kid will really eat like mac and cheese, tacos, cupcakes and pizza. Liz says that most families think preparing healthy meals takes a lot of time; is too expensive and the kids complain anyway – so why bother. So she decided to create kid friendly nutritious meals that can be prepared quickly. Liz came on to share some of her best tips to get your kids to eat healthier. A great tip that she shared was to get your kids involved – let them pick a recipe out of the book and make it for the family – when kids have ownership they complain less and are excited and proud of their accomplishment. Salmon Salad Recipe
In today’s Wellness Minute Dr Fitness and the Fat Guy share their salmon salad recipe. This salad works well with warm lentils. So boil up some lentils – Dr Fitness’ go to legume. Then toss some boneless skinless salmon fillets on the skillet with some olive oil – season and cook them up for about 4-5 minutes on each side. Now in a bowl make your favorite salad – try some arugula lettuce, then combine the salmon and the now hopefully cooled off lentils in their and you got yourself a healthy meal. Missi Wolf Explains How to Burn 900 Calories A Workout at Her Blast900 Fitness Center
On today’s show Dr Fitness and the Fat Guy had on Missi Wolf founder of the hot new fitness center concept Blast900 The Ultimate Workout. This workout is for all fitness levels – whether you’re a runner, jogger or walker you can lose weight at this gym. It’s not really a gym in the conventional sense it is a workout center that uses interval training techniques and fast paced music to get you moving. A class can have people of all fitness levels working out together – half the class are using high tech cardio equipment while the other half are doing other exercises. Each are using intervals to burn lots of calories then after a few minutes they switch up – the cardio people start exercising and the exercisers start doing cardio. Blackened Salmon Recipe
Do you like spicy food? In today’s Wellness Minute Dr Fitness and the Fat Guy share their blackened salmon recipe. The key to a good blackened salmon recipe is the blackening seasoning. This one uses some paprika, cayenne pepper, garlic pepper and salt. Take 4 6 ounce skinless salmon fillets and dip them into some melted butter then dip them into that seasoning mix you created earlier. Throw that in the oven. And serve it with some rice.
