ATLANTA, GA–(Marketwired – November 06, 2015) – On October 21, 2015, On The Money welcomed to the studio Joey Stuckey. Host Joe Moss sat down with Stuckey to talk about the exciting world of the music industry and why music is so important to business.
Joey Stuckey is the owner and president of Joey Stuckey Music & Shadow Sound Studios. Stuckey is an award-winning blind guitarist, songwriter, singer, composer, producer, radio and television personality, music columnist, educator and sound engineer. He is also the official music ambassador for his home town of Macon, Georgia. Stuckey’s guitar style is reminiscent of rocker Jeff Beck and jazzer Wes Montgomery, while his vocal influences range from Mel Torme to Gregg Allman.
Stuckey is currently involved with students, instructing them on guitar, voice, music theory, and sound engineering. He is the professor of Music Technology at Mercer University and an official mentor for the Recording Connections School in Los Angeles. Recently, Stuckey has taken on the role of music publisher and has a growing catalog of songs in multiple genres. His publishing companies include Sociology Publishing (BMI) and Sign Wave Publishing (ASCAP).
As a musician and business owner, Stuckey has a unique approach to his music. “You have to figure out who your audience is so you do have to kind of label things. But I just love to play music — I love country, I love rock, I love classical, I love jazz. That’s the blessing of being a recording engineer and producer because I get to play so many different styles of music.”
Stuckey spoke directly to the business of music and how it correlates to business in general. “There’s a wonderful military saying that says ‘No great plan withstands contact with the enemy.’ I’ve taken that mantra and I use it in my business. Just because I have a good plan that makes sense and sounds like it’s good, by the time we actually interact with people who are dynamic and not static, just because a good plan doesn’t work doesn’t mean you’re doing the wrong thing. You just need to be flexible and be able to try and do something different.”
Stuckey treated listeners to his rendition of “Georgia On My Mind.” To hear him perform, as well as talk more about his music background and career, listen to the entire interview at On The Money.
